Society for Underwater Technology Award

Ahmad Abdullah, Ph.D. candidate (ECE) is the winner of student paper contest of Society for Underwater Technology – TAMU in Engineering category with his paper titled “A Cost Effective and Environmentally Attractive Approach for Cable Protection in Off-Shore Wind Farms”. New Publication on Microbial Fuel Cells

Celal Erbay, Ph.D candidate (ECE) and his co-authors has published “Three-dimensional porous carbon nanotube sponges for high-performance anodes of microbial fuel cells” in Journal of Power Sources. Celal’s supervisor is Dr. Arum Han, Associate Professor (ECE), Director of NanoBio Systems Lab, and collaborator of the Smart Grid Center.  

Best Ph.D. Student Award

On August 18, 2015 at the ECE Dinner, Payman Dehghanian was awarded the ‘Best PhD Student Award’ from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He received this award for his outstanding performance during his Ph.D. program. Payman’s graduate research supervisor is Dr. Mladen Kezunovic, Webb professor (ECE), Smart Grid Center Director. Congratulations Payman!

Conference Paper on Weather Impacts on Electricity Markets

B. Zhang, P. Dehghanian, and M. Kezunovic have a new conference paper titled, “Simulation of Weather Impacts on the Wholesale Electricity Market,” that is accepted for presentation at the 10th International Conference on Deregulated Electricity Market Issues in South Eastern Europe (DEMSEE ‘15). Conference Paper on Impacts of Power System Topology Control on System Reliability

P. Dehghanian and M. Kezunovic have a new conference paper titled, “Impact Assessment of Power System Topology Control on System Reliability,” that is accepted for presentation at the IEEE Conference on Intelligent System Applications to Power Systems (ISAP). The conference will be held this September in Porto, Portugal. More info at link.

New Research Award to Silva-Martinez and Karsilayan

New research funding has been awarded to Dr. Jose Silva-Martinez (PI), Professor at ECE and Dr. Aydin Karsilayan (Co-PI), Associate Professor at ECE. The project is titled, “Single-Chip CMOS “Brain” for GaN/GaAs Power Amplifiers” and will go from April 2015 – September 2016. This research is funded by Sandia National Laboratories.  

Recent Conference Paper Publication

Dr. M. Kezunovic, E.E. Webb Professor, P.-C. Chen, A. Esmaeilian, and M. Tasdighi have a new conference paper that has been published in Proceeding 5th International Scientific and Technical Conference. The title of the paper is “Hierarchically Coordinated Protection: An Integrated Concept of Corrective, Predictive, and Inherently Adaptive Protection.” More information at this link.

Ahad Esmaeilian, Ph.D. candidate (ECE), is the recipient of the ConocoPhillips Fellowship 2015 that was awarded to support his research titled “Preventing Major Blackouts in Smart Electricity Grid Using Wide Area Synchrophasor Measurements”.
