PSERC IAB Meeting Held at Texas A&M on December 7-9, 2022

The meeting of the Power System Engineering Research Center (PSERC) Industry Advisory Board (IAB) was held at the Memorial Student Center of Texas A&M University on December 7-9, 2022.  PSERC has been a multidisciplinary NSF Industry/University Cooperative Research Center since 1996.  Its current director is Kory Hedman, Ph.D. (Professor, Electrical, Computer, and Energy Engineering, Arizona State University) leading the collaborative research efforts of 13 universities and 24 industry members. The Site Director at Texas A&M is Mladen Kezunovic, Ph.D. (Professor, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Regents Professor, Eugene E. Webb Chair Professor, National Academy of Enginneering Member), the lead organizer of this event. In the first 2 days of this meeting, progress of current projects, proposals of potential future projects were discussed.  Networking was an integral part of the meeting.

Students participated in poster competitions judged by representatives of industry member companies.  The winner was Muhammad Sarwar (Iowa State) for PSERC project S-96.

After the feedback from the IAB business meeting, presentations and a panel discussion on research questions and challenges on grid at the edge concluded the meeting. At the Banquet dinner, many participants commemorated late Bob Thomas, Ph.D., the founding director of PSERC, who died on October 9, 2022.

After the meeting on the afternoon of December 9, 2022, a group of meeting participants took a tour including hands-on experience at the Smart Grid Control Room Lab located at the Center for Infrastructure Renewal (CIR) located on the RELLIS campus.
