QNRF Best Researcher of the Year Award

Dr. Haitham Abu-Rub, collaborator of the Smart Grid Center and Managing Director of the Smart Grid Center Extension in Qatar has been awarded the Best Researcher of the Year award by the Qatar National Research Foundation. This recognition was awarded for his 25 journal papers, 11 conference papers, 1 book and 4 patent disclosures published

Aimone Wins Best Thesis in Undergraduate Research Scholars Program

Connor Aimone, a senior in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and minoring in mathematics at TAMU, won best thesis in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) category for the Texas A&M University Undergraduate Research Scholars Program. His thesis work was completed under the mentorship of Dr. Le Xie, a Smart Grid Center

Newly Appointed Holder of Lohman Professorship

Dr. Miroslav Begovic, Advisory Board member of the Smart Grid Center, was appointed by Dr. M. Katherine Banks to be holder of the Caroline S. and Tommie Lohman ’59 Professorship in Engineering Education. Dr. Begovic will hold the professorship for three years.

Paper Publication

Ahad Esmaeilian, PhD candidate, and co-authors, Drs. Tomo Popovic and Mladen Kezunovic, have a paper chosen for publication in the Electric Power Systems Research Journal. The title of the paper is “Transmission Line Relay Mis-operation Detection Based on Time-synchronized Field Data“. 2015-2016 Academic Excellence Award

Payman Dehghanian, one of Dr. Keznuovic’s PhD student, was awarded the TAMU 2015-2016 Academic Excellence Award: Herman F. Heep Scholarship and Achievement Fund. This is a 1-year scholarship for those who have shown outstanding academic achievement.

2015 Distinguished Achievement Award Recipient

Dr. Haiyan Wang (ECEN), a Smart Grid Center collaborator, was awarded the 2015 Distinguished Achievement Award for Research. This award is given by Texas A&M University and the Association of Former Students to 24 members of the school’s faculty and staff. It highlights those who have exhibited the highest standard of excellence at Texas A&M University.

Newly Approved 3-Year Project

A new project titled “Life-Cycle Management of Mission-Critical Systems through Certification, Commissioning, In-Service Maintenance, Remote Testing, and Risk Assessment” was recently approved for $1.2 million. 2014 Outstanding Reviewers

Payman Dehghanian and Po-Chen Chen, PhD candidates, were both recognized for being Outstanding Reviewers in 2014. This award is for those who have demonstrated exceptional review work in 2014. Payman was recognized for his work with the Elsevier Journal of Energy.     Po-Chen Chen was recognized for his work with IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery.
