Visualization of the Impact of the April 8, 2024 Total Solar Eclipse on US PV Generation

On April 8, 2024 North America will experience a total solar eclipse that will pass over areas with high levels of solar generation. For the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, visualization of its impact on US photovoltaic (PV) generation was simulated and presented by Dr. Thomas Overbye (Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Texas A&M University; Director of Smart Grid Center, Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station).

The simulation video may be viewed here.

In addition, the simulated impact of the October 14, 2023 annual solar eclipse on the US solar PV generation was also created.

The simulation video for the October 14, 2023 event may be viewed here.

Analysis and visualizations were created by using PowerWorld Simulator version 23.

More on Dr. Overbye’s research is posted here.
