Workshop – Safe and Reliable Electrical Distribution Systems for Qatar

To showcase proven technologies and to stimulate technology transfer and engagement with industry, Dr. Robert Balog (Associate Professor at Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at TAMU and TAMU-Qatar; Director of REAPER Lab) chaired the inaugural workshop on “Safe & Reliable Electrical Distribution Systems for Qatar” held in Doha, Qatar, on December 1-2, 2019.

The objectives also included identifying potential future problems in electrical distributions systems in order to develop implementation paths and strategic partnerships for solutions specific to Qatar.

Sponsored financially by the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), the successful event with plenary and technical sessions brought together well-known speakers from the U.S., Europe, and Qatar. From TEES Smart Grid Center, Dr. Miroslav Begovic (Lohman ’59 professor and ECE Department Head) and Dr. B. Don Russell (Distinguished Professor and Regents Professor, ECE Department) were also among the speakers.

In partnership with the Flemish Institute for Technological Research (VITO), the workshop featured best practices, new technologies, and applicable lessons to enhance the safety and reliability of the electricity distribution systems in Qatar.  This workshop attracted more than 70 participants including industry, electrical system users, and stakeholders. More information including the program is posted on the website of the workshop. More is published here
