PowerWorld Software Hands-on Training

Picture1TAMU now has licenses to PowerWorld Corporation software including PowerWorld Simulator, PowerWorld Dynamics Studio (DS), and PowerWorld Retriever.  This software is widely used in the electric power industry for power system analysis and visualization.  Applications include power flow, contingency analysis, optimal power flow (OPF), security constrained OPF, transient stability, geomagnetic disturbance (GMD) analysis, and interactive dynamic simulations using PowerWorld DS.  This special two hour hands-on training seminar will provide an initial introduction to the PowerWorld software.

A training series over how to use the software will be held by Dr. Tom Overbye starting February 8th, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. in WEC 236C. At the first seminar we will determine the best dates for future seminars to cover more advanced aspects of the software.  While not required, attendees are strongly encouraged to bring laptops that contain at least the PowerWorld version 19 academic software.

Thomas J. Overbye is a professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University (TAMU).  Prior to joining TAMU in January 2017 he was the Fox Family Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). He received his BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1983, 1988 and 1991 respectively.  Before starting his academic career he was employed with Madison Gas and Electric Company from 1983 to 1991.  Dr. Overbye is the original developer of PowerWorld Simulator, an innovative, widely used software package for power system analysis and visualization, and a co-founder of PowerWorld Corporation. He is also the recipient of the Alexander Schwarzkopf Prize for Technological Innovation, a University of Wisconsin-Madison College of Engineering Distinguished Achievement Award, the IEEE Power and Energy Society Outstanding Power Engineering Educator Award and is a member of the US National Academy of Engineering.
